Lymphatic Drainage Massage

Lymphatic Drainage Massage is a safe and non-invasive method of reducing swelling and inflammation in the face and body. The massage uses highly specialised and gentle rhythmical movements that stretch and stimulate the lymph vessels that sit just under the surface of the skin. These movements encourage the flow of lymph throughout the entire lymphatic system, removing waste products and excess fluid. This is a very different technique to other forms of massage, working entirely on the skin and not muscle.

Lymphatic drainage massage has multiple uses including:

  • Reduces swelling / inflammation
  • Promotes healing
  • Reduces scarring
  • Promotes localised pain relief
  • Promotes relaxation
  • Reduces anxiety
  • Strengthens immunity
  • Improves chronic conditions i.e. sinusitis, arthritis, scleroderma, acne, rosacea
  • Reduces downtime following surgical procedures (inc. cosmetic surgery)
  • Reduces bruising
  • Promotes toxin removal for localised and general detox
  • Reduces abdominal bloating
  • Improves general wellbeing

If you are interested in using lymphatic drainage specifically to sculpt your facial features, more information on my treatment that combines this and reiki (Contour and Calm) can be found on the holistic treatments page of this website.

There are usually none or very minimal negative side effects to lymphatic drainage. Most commonly, you may feel dehydrated after the session or need to use the toilet more often than usual. This is because the lymphatic system has been stimulated to recycle and eliminate excess fluid and toxins. These are both positive signs that the treatment has been successful.

There are some circumstances under which lymphatic drainage massage cannot be used and these are:

  • Untreated malignant (cancerous) disease - including tumour recurrence and/or metastases
  • Serious heart conditions
  • Renal failure
  • Acute infection
  • Acute allergic reaction
  • DVT

Lymphatic drainage massage can also be used to treat both lymphoedema and lipoedema, but I am not qualified or insured to work with these conditions.  Other conditions may require that the treatment session be modified, but this will be discussed prior to the commencement of treatment.
