There are many ways and means to support people who wish to give up smoking, but evidence suggests that of them all hypnotherapy is the most effective with the longest lasting rates of cessation. Whilst success cannot be guaranteed, those who stop, with the aid of hypnosis are less likely to return to smoking, tend to suffer less withdrawal symptoms and are less likely to suffer from associated weight gain.

However, it is worth remembering that hypnotherapy isn’t magic and will only work with those people who have the desire and motivation to make the change. You yourself have to want to stop as opposed to “wanting to want to stop” or feeling as though you “should” stop. Whilst suggestions to increase your motivation and will power given under hypnosis will help to support your resolve, there also needs to be a positive and firm commitment to the idea that you will never smoke again and active participation on your part that the techniques learned are practised until the habits are changed - for good.

This is not an easy process, but the rewards are life changing, be that in terms of your health, your bank balance or your personal appearance. On top of that imagine the boost to your self-confidence and esteem from having made such a positive difference and doing it for yourself.

Although I would expect that a client with the appropriate attitude would stop smoking after the first session, it is generally recommended that a second session also take place. This gives an opportunity to reinforce the suggestions given in the first session and also to discuss any continued desire to smoke that you may have. People smoke for a number of different reasons, some of which may require some analytical work and this can also be carried out in the second session.
